Reece Good took a bullet to the head and survived.
The motorcycle builder and designer was returning from Sturgis in 2006, when he and two of his friends became the victims of a drive-by shooting. To date, the perpetrators remain at-large.
As Good recovered at the University of Kansas Medical Center, his friends hosted a massive barbecue and auction event, “Smokin’ for Reece.” More than 2,000 people attended and donated more than $57,000 to help fund Good’s medical care.
Good has never forgotten their charity and would like to pay it forward.
This weekend, he will host a poker run this weekend. The run will benefit the “Riding with Reece Patients in Need Fund for Traumatic Brain Injury at KU Medical Center.”
Registration for the run will start at 8 a.m. at the Tumbleweed Bar and Grill in Gardner. Riders, hot rodders, rat rodders and everyday car drivers are invited to join as the run travels to establishments in Wellsville, Ottawa, Lawrence, De Soto and Bonner Springs before returning back to the Tumbleweed.
Fifty percent of the donations will payout in the poker run. The remaining 50 percent will be donated to Reece’s fund for KU Med Center patients.
