Johnson County Commissioners approved a development plan for a warehouse facility at New Century AirCenter on Sept. 27.
Riverbend Transfer, an agricultural animal feed shipping company, plans to develop a 24,000 square foot warehouse on seven acres near 166th Street and Moonlight Road at New Century.
Tom Riederer, president of the Southwest Johnson County Economic Development Corp., told The Gardner News that Riverbend Transfer would use the New Century rail to deliver grain to the warehouse where it would be placed into containers and then trucked to the intermodal logistics park.
The company will ship regionally grown grain to the Pacific Rim in Asia.
Riverbend is the second grain company to locate in the Gardner Edgerton area as a result of the intermodal logistics park.
The DeLong Co., an exporter of containerized grain, closed on the purchase of an 8.7 acre site at the intermodal logistics park last year.
