Emma “Clarice” Roberts passed away June 8, 2012 in Leavenworth, Kan.
Clarice was born Feb. 3, 1918 in Washington, Kan. the daughter of Clarence J and Salena P (Oliver) Werner. She moved from Washington to Merriam, Kan. at age five, where she attended kindergarten. From Merriam she moved to Edgerton, Kan. where she attended elementary school and graduated from Edgerton Rural High School in 1937.
On Aug. 31, 1939 Clarice married Leon D Roberts in Leavenworth, Kan. They resided on a farm near Edgerton until moving to Bonner Springs, Kan. in 1956. She was a homemaker and talented seamstress.
Clarice was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church. She was a 62-year member of The Order of the Eastern Star and was Past Worthy Matron in 1957, of the Cosmos Chapter #281. Clarice will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon in 1980; her son Larry in 1978; her parents; two brothers and their wives, Oliver (Ganelle) and Jr. (AnnaBelle).
Clarice is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Battle (John, III), Leavenworth, Kan.; two grandsons, John, IV (Amber), Kansas City, Kan. and Kyle Battle, Leavenworth, Kan.; her great-granddaughter, McKenna Lea, who was born on her 93rd birthday; sister-in-law, Lois Roberts, Bonner Springs, Kan. Also surviving is Diane Davis Smith, who Clarice once cared for in her home.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., June 12, 2012 at Edgerton Cemetery, Edgerton, Kan. Arrangements: Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111.
