The filing deadline for state offices is past, and the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office is continuing to update the list of candidates.  Officials are still working to finalize the list, which can be seen here.
There are three candidates filed to run for the 43rd House district, which includes Gardner and Edgerton. They are Republicans Bill Sutton and Dan Thompson, and Democrat Kevin King. Rep. Mike Kiegerl, who had said he would move to Gardner and vie for the seat, is not listed as running inthe 43rd District. He is instead listed to run to represent the 121st District, which includes south Olathe.
Gardner residents who live north of U.S. 56 Highway or Main Street will select between Julia Lynn, a Republican incumbent from Olathe, and Democrat Merlin Ring.
There are three  Republicans filed to represent the south side of Gardner — Sen. Pat Apple, R-Louisburg,  Rep. Charlotte O’Hara, R-Overland Park, and Daniel Campbell.
The primary election is set for Aug. 7.
