Paul Edward “Eddie” Gillespie, 68, of Edgerton, Kan., lost his battle with Amyloidosis June 1, 2012 at Olathe Medical Center.
Eddie was born Nove. 16, 1943 to Floyd and Mildred (Dwyer) Gillespie. A lifelong rural Edgerton resident, he attended Lanesfield School and graduated from Edgerton Rural High School in 1961.
Eddie married Tula Larrick on April 20, 1963.
He was a lifelong member of the Edgerton Assumption Catholic Church. Eddie was an Industrial Engineer at Hallmark Cards in Lawrence, Kan., retiring in 1994 after 32 years. He then worked as a Veterinarian Assistant at the Overbrook Sale Barn for 12 years.
He was a lifelong cattleman and for the past several years, he enjoyed a hobby in flowers and gardening. He always enjoyed vacationing in Colorado, spoiling his rat-terrier dogs and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Don and Richard “Butch” and a brother-in-law, Mick Norris.
Eddie is survived by his wife Tula, of the home; children, Jeff and Linda Gillespie, Ryan and Karen Gillespie, Dee and Kevin Todd, Kenny and Johanna Gillespie, all of Edgerton; grandchildren, Heather, Brent, Megan, Dustin, Darryll, Matt, Nick, and Ethan; step-grandchildren, Jake (Allison), Justin, and Jason (Shauncee); step great grandchildren; two sisters, Patty Norris and Margie Embry (Gary), and sister-in-law Lora Beth Gillespie.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., June 6, 2012 at Assumption Catholic Church, 114 E Nelson, Edgerton, KS with burial following at St. Columbine Catholic Cemetery, Edgerton. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., June 5, 2012, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS, (913) 856-7111. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Columbine Catholic Cemetery or the Mayo Clinic.
