Lowell Edwin Hoch, 83, of Ottawa, Kan., and formerly of Gardner, Kan., passed away May 14, 2012 at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, Kan.
Lowell was born Sept. 25, 1928 near Alta Vista, KS to Harry Harold and Opal Virginia (Engstrom) Hoch. He was a graduate of Dwight, KS High School, McPherson College, McPherson, Kan. and earned his Masters in Teaching from Pittsburg State, Pittsburg, Kan. Lowell served in the U.S. Army. He taught in the Gardner Edgerton School District, retiring in 1979. Lowell also ran the Saw Shop and the Dari Freez in Gardner and Dari Bar in Wellsville. Lowell married Patsy Harper Clabaugh on October 28, 2000 in Edgerton, Kan. He was a member of the Edgerton United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Willis, and wife Barbara (Switzer) Hoch.
Lowell is survived by his wife Patsy, of the home; children Patricia L. Sullivan of Ottawa, Kan., Tony L. Hoch of Jenks, Okla., Garry A. Hoch of Lenexa, Kan., Robin D. Palmisano of Tucson, Ariz., and Cheryl Shields of Wellsville, Kan.; stepchildren Janet Newton of Alma, Kan., Lynda Kidwell of Olathe, Kan., Nancy Clabaugh of New Mexico; brother Arthur Hoch of McPherson, Kan.; 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m., June 2, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, 138 E Shawnee, Gardner, KS with inurnment following at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation will be held before the service; also at the church at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brookside Retirement Community-Lowell Hoch Memorial Fund or the Edgerton United Methodist Church.
