Lieutenant Colonel Jon J. Showalter has assumed command of the 158th Airlift Squadron, a unit of the 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard.  The Savannah-based Airlift Wing flies the venerable C-130H aircraft in which Lt. Col. Showalter is a Navigator.  Lt. Col. Showalter has held numerous positions within the squadron including command pilot.  He has over two hundred combat sorties during rotations in the war zones of Iraq and Afghanistan.
As commander, he oversees an operation of over 100 personnel and eight C-130 H2 aircraft.  The 165th AW has served on numerous rotations during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Lt. Col. Showalter is a graduate of the University of Kansas and received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1989.  Colonel Showalter is a Command Pilot with over 12,000 total flying hours in T-37, T-38, C-130B/E/H2, A300, B727, B757, B767, MD-11/10 aircraft.
Lt. Col Showalter is married to the former Suzanne Birch of Chester, England.  They have two sons, Harrison and James, and currently reside in Savannah.
