The Gardner Edgerton High School softball squad celebrated Senior Night with a doubleheader sweep of Blue Valley Northwest at home, May 8.
In the opener, GEHS posted a 4-3 come-from-behind win thanks to a sixth inning two-run homer by Tara Dodson.
Trailing 2-0, GEHS got on the scoreboard with two runs in the second inning. Alexis Pacheco doubled and scored on a hit by Shelby Kaberline. Kaberline’s courtesy runner, Lauren Miller, scored after singles from Elizabeth Insisienmay and Britnee Willard. That set the stage for Dodson’s late inning heroics.
Things proved a bit easier in game two as GEHS plated three runs in the first inning. Single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings sealed the verdict.
Willard led the offense going five-for-six with two stolen bases. Jackie Sylva was three-for-four with two RBIs.
Meanwhile, pitcher Shelby Plank kept the Northwest bats at bay and helped her cause with two hits.
GEHS concluded the regular season 11-9, including a late-season 10-2 run. Post season play began this week but results were not available at press time.
