Edgerton residents experienced a two-hour power outage early May 9.
Mike Mabrey, city superintendent, said Kansas City Power and Light officials said the power outage was caused by a “varmint” getting into a substation and shorting it out.
The power loss caused damage to some equipment at the city’s sewer plant.
“We had a motor on one item that burned up,” Mabrey said, “We are waiting on some special fuses so we can do more diagnostics (to determine whether any other equipment was damaged.”
One witness said the power outage was more of a brown-out than a black-out.
Power appeared flowing through the system, but at a low voltage.
Mabrey said he will discuss the matter with a KCP&L engineer on May 10.
