The Drillers, a Gardner girls 12-under fastpitch softball team, brought back first place honors from the Steve McGinnis Memorial Tournament April 14-15 in Olathe.
After a first-round pool play 6-0 loss to the KC Panthers, the Drillers went to work.
The Drillers defeated the KC Freedom 13-5, the Flash 4-2, and the KC Mustangs 7-2 to gain a second seed in bracket play.
It took an international tie-breaker to defeat the KC Driven 8-7 in first round bracket play. In the semi-final, the Drillers beat the Mustangs 8-7. In the title game, the Drillers once again used an international tie breaker to defeat the KC Freedom 6-5.
Playing for the tourney champions were Jayme Morris, Malibu McIntire, Lynsie Britton, Hannah Pemberton, Sydney Dietz, Mikala Galvin, Brooke Boyer, Jordan Roberts, Kennedy Meyer, Maddie Nieman and Regan Smith.
Coaches were Kent McIntire, Bill Boyer, Mark Meyer, and Kerry Smith.
