The Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City recognized two Pioneer Ridge Middle School teachers on World Down Syndrome Day, March 21.
Stephanie Taylor and Paul Fibelkorn were recognized for their commitment to supporting individuals with Down Syndrome and making a meaningful difference in the life of student Ryan Prothe and family.
In order to be considered for the recognition, the pair was nominated by Prothe’s family. The guild reviewed nominations and selected Taylor and Fibelkorn for the recognition.
World Down Syndrome Day was established by Down Syndrome International in 2006. More than 60 countries in the world recognize the day. Down Syndrome, marked by three copies of chromosome 21, occurs in approximately one in 800 births worldwide.
