A train struck an abandoned truck in Edgerton during the early hours of March 29.
According to Tom Erickson, public information officer for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the truck’s driver was attempting to maneuver through a closed crossing at 199th Street when the truck became high-centered on the tracks, and the driver fled.
The crossing was closed for construction at the time.
“The driver was no where to be found,” Erickson said.
Erickson said the train was moving slowly when it struck the truck and damage to the vehicle was “minimal.”
Deputies located the registered owner of the truck and determined that they were not the driver.
The driver has not been located, and no citations have been issued.
