Raymond Francis Braun, 90, of Edgerton, Kan. died March 14, 2012 at Olathe Medical Center.
Ray was born Jan. 29, 1922 to William Francis and Vincentia (McCarthy) Braun of Edgerton. He graduated from Edgerton Rural High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After discharge he opened Ray’s Service Station in Edgerton which he continuously ran for over 60 years.
Ray married Jo Jardon on June 24, 1950 and was a lifelong member of Assumption Catholic Church in Edgerton.
Ray was dedicated to his church, family, and community. He served as city councilman, mayor, volunteer fireman, fire chief, and deputy marshall. He held board member positions for Gardner Hospital, Hillsdale Dam Association, Lanesfield Museum, and St. Columbine Cemetery Association.
He received many honors in his lifetime including Kansas Distinguished Jayhawker, VFW Department of Kansas Achievement Award and Jaycees Man of the Year.
Ray was a valuable community leader and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by two sisters Florence Lewis and Louise Hamby.
Ray is survived by his wife, Jo, of the home, five children William Francis “Bill” of Auburn, Calif., Mary Jo Sutton (Gary) of Topeka, Kan., Teresa Braun Schrimp (Mark) of Portland, Ore., Stephen Raymond (Helene) of Dubai, UAE, and Linda Braun Anderson (Andy) of Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, two great grandsons and his sister Lois Roberts of Bonner Springs, Kan.
Rosary at 2 p.m. followed by a visitation until 4:30 p.m., March 18, 2012 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., March 19, 2012 at Assumption Catholic Church in Edgerton. Burial with military honors in St. Columbine Catholic Cemetery following the service.
