Darlene Mae Schulz, of Gardner, Kan., passed away Feb. 22, 2012 at Olathe Medical Center.
Darlene was born July 3, 1941 in Gardner to John Clifton and Minnie Alice (Smiley) Rush. She was a 1959 Gardner High School graduate.
Darlene married William “Bill” Schulz on Dec. 21, 1963 in Olathe, Kan.
She was very patriotic and active in her community. Over the years, Darlene’s favorite project with the American Legion was seeing that the U.S. flags and crosses were always on the Veteran’s graves at Gardner Cemetery. Darlene served as a Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary, Gardner Post #19 and was a member of the VFW Legion Auxiliary in Olathe. She loved spending time with her family and friends, was an avid card player and enjoyed reading. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gary Lee Rush and granddaughter Olivia.
Darlene is survived by her husband Bill, of the home; children Carrie J. and (Randy) Swisher, Eric C. “Fudge” and (Kelly) Schulz, and Janet and (Bret) Oswald, all of Gardner, Cheryl and (Dennis) Palmer and Alice M. and (Bob) Romi, all of Wellsville, Kan.; sister Barbara and (Bill) Newson of Olathe; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Feb. 27, 2012 at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Feb. 26, 2012 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS, (913) 856-7111.
