After reeling off two come-from behind victories last week, the Gardner Edgerton boys’ basketball squad upped its season record to 9-5.
The Blazers, who have won seven of the last nine contests, also stand at 6-3 in the rugged Eastern Kansas League-arguably the state’s best basketball circuit.
GE started the week off with a big home triumph against Blue Valley West.  The Blazers led 14-10 after one period but trailed 28-25 at the break.  GE quickly regained the lead at 44-42 entering the final frame.  In that fourth period, the Blazers scored 25 points to hold off West and get the 69-62 win.
CJ Hall led the team with 16 points which included two three-pointers.
It was quite a night for GE behind the arc as they hit nine triples in the game. Other players who found success from three-point land included Kyle Huppe and Webb who each drained two long jumpers on the way to 15 and 13 points respectively.  Zach Hickman, Matt Plank, and Ben Carpenter each had a trey as well.  Hickman finished with six tallies, Plank had five, and Carpenter had three.  Trae Wrench contributed seven points and Dilon Dodson had four points to round out the scoring effort.
Three nights later, the Blazers were back on the hardwoods to face a vastly improved Blue Valley Southwest squad.
In a close, hotly contested affair, GE earned a 68-61 overtime victory.
The Blazers led the game by one after a quarter and they maintained that slim advantage at the break by a score of26-25.  Southwest grabbed the lead by three entering the fourth quarter before GE stormed back to tie the game. The Blazers then went on an 11-4 overtime run to gain the win.
Webb led the team in scoring with 29 points.  Huppe added 12, Wrench had eight, Hall had seven, Hickman had five, Plank had three, and Dodson and Carpenter had two each.
Next up for the squad will be the Winter Royalty match up with Blue Valley North-one of the state’s top teams and the co-leader in the Eastern Kansas League.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 10.
