Special to The Gardner News
It is the time of year that many people make a New Year’s Resolution to go on a diet and lose weight.
Karen Thomas, Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) chapter leader, gave a very fitting demonstration at the Dec. 27 meeting. Dressed in appropriate attire, she brewed up the perfect weight loss potion.
First of all she threw out all of the bad habits, excuses and fad diets. Then she started adding good habits, healthy foods and making a life style change in attitude towards what we consume and how to keep our bodies fit with exercise, sleep, journaling and determination. Her demonstration was very well-presented and received.
The Gardner Chapter of TOPS is an active organization in the Northeast area of Kansas.
In November we hosted the Area Recognition Days (ARD) at the Church of the Nazarene Fellowship Building here in Gardner. Twelve chapters of the North East Area were in attendance. The theme for recognition day was “Kicking Up Our Heels in TOPS” and was carried out with all western decorations.
Gardner members placed very well in the overall recognition awards.
Those who won awards include: Area Best Loser, second place, Joy Alcorn; Most Consecutive Weeks With No Gains, first place, Joy Alcorn; Perfect Attendance, Betty Gass and Laura McKaig; Chapter With Most New Members, first place, Gardner; Total Numbers Lost By a Chapter (Division 3), Gardner; Chapter Ambassador, Sandra Husted, Gardner; Best Role Model, Carol Polter; Best Maintenance Below Goal (KOPS), Betty Gass, Marian and Bill Cunningham, Nelda Liebig; Regular KOPS Award, Betty Gass, Bill and Marian Cunningham, Nelda Liebig, Annette Hoffman; Host Award, Karen Thomas; Name Tag Contest, second Place, Gardner; Door Prize, Diane Downing.
ARD was a fun day filled with the awards, skits, talent, music, contests and a western outfit parade.
The Gardner Chapter had calendars, with low calorie recipes and pictures, printed up and had them on sale. Other chapters had booths with numerous items for sale also. There are about a dozen remaining for sale at $5 each.
Currently our chapter is in a contest with a Lawrence Chapter of TOPS to lose the most weight in a three month period. The loser must present a program at the winning club’s meeting.
