Susan B. McKinney Westhoff, 96, formerly of Gardner, Kan., passed away Dec. 9, 2011 in Phoenix, Ariz.
Susan B. McKinney was born March 5, 1915 in a rural farmhouse in eastern Kansas just across the state line from Martin City, Mo. She grew up on a small farm and attended school at the one room Oxford School in Johnson County. She graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City where she excelled in athletics.
She married Clyde Westhoff and they bought a dairy farm near Gardner, Kan. in 1939. After an absence during World War II, they returned to the farm in 1945.
Susan was a hard worker who did her part not only in the kitchen but also in the dairy barn and fields. After discontinuing the dairy operation Susan spent 20 years as Production Manager for the Cramer Chemical Company in Gardner. She and Clyde retired in 1974 and moved to Sun City, Ariz. where they enjoyed their retirement years.
Susan is preceded in death by her daughter Peggy Lehman of Gardner, her grandson Jay Lehman of Gardner and her husband Clyde.
She is survived by her son Jim Westhoff of Phoenix, Ariz. her daughter Anne Bowen of Lawrence, Kan., nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Jan. 21, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church, 138 E Shawnee, Gardner, KS. Inurnment in Gardner Cemetery with a reception following at the Church Fellowship Hall.
