Investigators from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office have ruled the shooting death of a 56-year-old Wellsville man accidental.
Sean Thomson, a 1973 Gardner High School graduate, was discovered by his 22-year-old daughter with a gunshot wound on New Years Eve.
Thomson was in his home in the 200 Block of Downey Lane in Wellsville.
He was transported to Olathe Medical Center where he died.
Sheriff’s officials initially investigated the death as a homicide, as with any case involving “an unknown violent death,” according to a report released on Jan. 3.
“Through that investigation homicide was ruled out as a possibility,” the report reads. “The death has been considered an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“The sheriff’s office continues its investigation but cause is no longer in question.”
