Ronald Lawrence Kessler, 62, Gardner, Kan., died Jan. 2, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Ron was born Oct. 28, 1949 in Kansas City, Mo. He lived in or near Gardner his entire life. After graduating from Gardner High School in 1967, he attended Fort Scott Junior College and Emporia State University.
Ron worked as a truck driver.
Ron married JoEllen Bradford and they have two daughters, Kelly and Jamie.
Ron’s mom, Doris, loved and cared for her oldest son every day of his life. Family and friends will miss him dearly.
Ron enjoyed sports, music and dancing. He always looked forward to his fall pheasant hunting trip. But the most important things in Ron’s life were his family and friends. As a past elected officer and an active member of the Sons of American Legion, Post 19, in Gardner, Ron’s smiling face was a permanent fixture where he was often called by his nickname “Neighbor”.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Larry, in 2002.
His brothers Jim (Kathy), Rick, Mike and his sister Cheryl Kratzberg (Carl) will miss their big brother and his fun loving attitude. Also surviving are five nieces and three nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Jan. 5, 2012, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. A Mass will be said at 10:30 am on Jan. 6, 2012, at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 555 W Main, Gardner, KS. Cremation. Inurnment after Mass at Saint Columbia Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Sons of American Legion, Post 19 or Olathe Hospice House Building Fund.
