Calvin Eugene “Duffy” Duffield, 84, of Spring Hill, passed away Dec. 4, 2011 at Royal Terrace Nursing Home, Olathe, Kan.
Calvin was born May 25, 1927 in Olathe, Kan. to Guy Raymond and Bessie Franklin (Ledom) Duffield. He grew up in Olathe.
Calvin served in the US Army during WWII.
He married Ella Louise Duffield and they became parents of three daughters. Calvin and family moved to Spring Hill in 1957 and he remained a life-long resident of the area.
He was a truck driver for Olathe Ready Mix for over 35 years.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW both of Paola, the Teamsters Union of Kansas City and Ocheltree Baptist Church.
Calvin married Margaret Jane Ross McMechan in Kaycee, Wyo. in 1987. Calvin enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening and bird watching. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and will be deeply missed.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Ella, siblings Dorothy, Johnny, Betty, Margaret and Clifton.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, of the home; three daughters Linda Israel and Steve of Gardner, Kan., Connie Newton, Gayla Robinson and Tracy, all of Spring Hill; siblings Art and Marie Duffield of Olathe, Clarence and Delores Duffield of Rocky Comfort, Mo., and Alice Hartley of Olathe; grandchildren Brad and Vanessa Kuhn, Amy Robinson and Robin Tremonti and great grandson Brett Jackson Kuhn.
Funeral services with military honors will be 1 p.m., Dec. 8, 2011 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S Webster, Spring Hill, KS, (913) 592-2244. Burial at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Dec. 7, 2011 also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Animal Haven.
