Deloyn Huffman, 76, of Gardner, brought back five gold medals from the Kansas Senior Olympics in Topeka, Oct. 7.
“I ran in six races and got five first places,” said Huffman, who is in his 12th year on the senior track circuit. “I felt in good shape.”
Huffman grabbed gold in the 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1500 and placed second in the 3200 meters.
In recent 5k races, Huffman won Oct. 1 and Oct. 8 events.
Huffman, who has lived in Gardner since 1972, started running when the Great Mall of the Great Plains was built in Olathe.
Eventually he started jogging.
“I said, ‘I can’t jog,’ but went a little farther and got faster,” added Huffman “I’ve been running ever since.”
