Steven Charles Blann, 59, of Paola, Kan., passed away Oct. 9, 2011 at his home.
Steve was born May 17, 1952 in Lawrence, Kan. to Charles Edward and Donnie Bea (Young) Blann. He received his Associates of Arts Degree from JCCC and attended Enterprise Academy in Enterprise, Kan. Steve married Sandra Kay Miller on Sept. 14, 1975 in Lenexa, Kan.
He was employed with Leawood Fire Department from 1977 until his retirement as Battalion Chief in 2002. He was then employed with the Jo Co Fire District #2 from 2004 until he retired as Battalion Chief in 2011.
He was a member of the Olathe New Life, Seventh Day Adventist Church, a graduate of Executive Fire Officer Program, a member of the Swift Water Rescue Team, a life-long Triathlete, and a cyclist annually participating in the KS MS 150.
Steve’s grandchildren were the highlight of his life. He enjoyed nature, gardening, bird watching and any outdoor activity with his sons. He enjoyed family outings to Beaver Lake, camping and boating. Steve will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Deann Trigg, Renee Roberts, and Bryan Blann.
Steve is survived by his wife Sandra, of the home; sons Andrew Blann of Lawrence, Kan. and Jacob Blann and wife Chanista of Olathe, Kan.; brothers Robert Blann of Spring Hill and Wesley Blann of Kansas City, Mo.; sister Alisa Hornbacher of Paola, Kan.; many nieces and nephews; and three grandchildren Hailey, Phoenix and Dylan.
A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m., Oct. 14, 2011 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S Webster, Spring Hill, KS, (913) 592-2244. Inurnment will be at Eudora City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 13, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions to the Kansas City Community Blood Center or the MS Society. Condolences may be left at
