A 31-year-old Gardner woman is facing battery and theft charges following a shoplifting incident at the Gardner Walmart on Sept. 26.
According to Ilena Spalding, public information officer for the Gardner Police Department, officers responded to the incident, which happened about 2:32 p.m.
The woman — whose name is being withheld pending formal charges — allegedly tried to steal speakers and knife sets from Walmart and then shoved and pushed two asset protection officers as they tried to stop her from leaving the store.
Officers located the suspect in a vehicle at Santa Fe Street and Cedar Niles Road.
Spalding said officers stopped the vehicle in the 1500 block of Santa Fe, and the suspect complained of injuries from a previous incident.
The woman was then transported to a hospital for observation.
Spalding said the woman is facing charges of two counts of battery and one count of misdemeanor theft.
