Gardner Edgerton High School’s soccer squad battled Shawnee Mission North to a 2-2 tie in the season opener at Shawnee Mission North, Sept. 1.
The Blazers were up 1-0 at halftime when Dilon Dodson converted a penalty kick.
North evened the score at 1-1 with 20 minutes left in regulation.
Tied 1-1, officials halted action early in the second half due to lighting failure. After a short delay, officials moved play to a neighboring field and resumed action with 16 minutes remaining.
Both teams battled back and forth until GEHS’ John McBride put the Blazers up 2-1 with five minutes left.
The lead was short-lived as North tied the score with 1:15 remaining, leaving the game at 2-2.
In junior varsity action, GEHS shut out North 2-0. The shutout was shared by goalkeepers Alex Nunez and Ashton Vega.
Kiel Harding opened the scoring ona left-footed blast from 20 yards out. Juan Carlos Ramirez netted the second goal 10 minutes later to leave the score at 2-0.
