The Gardner Police Department participated in the Kansas Law Enforcement $2+ Fund-raiser for the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.
The fund-raiser was for Law Enforcement Agencies to collect and donate $2 + the last two digits of the officer’s badge number to Special Olympics.
The Gardner Police Department collected $63.64 and all full time members (commissioned and civilian) of the department participated, making it one of the few agencies that reached 100 percent participation for their departments.
Special Olympics provided three prizes for a drawing for departments which had at least 75 percent participation in the fundraiser.  Prizes included a Jerry Rice Autographed Football, a Tom Watson Autographed Golf Club and a KU Basketball Coach Bill Self Autographed Magazine Cover.
On Aug. 23, Jana Fornelli, vice president of development for the Law Enforcement Torch Run, visited the police department to award Kathy Wilmoth, police clerk, with the second the place prize of a Tom Watson autographed golf club.
