Gardner police found a live hand grenade on Aug. 24 after being called to a residence in the 18500 block of S. Sycamore Court.
According to Ilena Spalding, public information officer for the police department, a person reported finding the grenade while moving property belonging to his father from one residence to another.
Spalding said police found a live grenade – with the pin and spoon both missing – in a metal container.
Sgt. James Belcher moved the explosive out of the house and into the back yard where the Olathe Bomb Squad removed the grenade, took it to a blasting range, and detonated it.
The area surrounding the residence was cordoned off while the grenade was being removed.
No one was injured during the incident.
