Football
A much improved Bronco football team hosts De Soto in its home opener Sept. 2, 7 p.m. at the district stadium.
Led by running back Brady Donahue and wide receiver Carson King, Spring Hill hopes to improve on last year’s 2-7 record.
The return of quarterback Jeff Lovetinsky, who returned from Indiana for his senior season, bolsters the squad.
Top defensive play will come from Chris Terrazas (OL and DL) and Drew Ewing (linebacker).
“We are very excited about this season and know we have to bring our ‘A’ game every week in the Frontier League,” said Coach Anthony Orrick. “We definitely look to improve from a season ago.”
Tennis
Head coach Thomas Sherron and assistant Amy Castle (a GEHS grad) welcomed 25 kids to camp Aug. 13 in preparation for the opener.
Seniors Anna King, Layne Gilliland and Kjersti Anderson will provide leadership for a young team.

Cross Country
Veteran Head coach Rick O’Neil is preparing his squad for a Sept. 1 meet at Anderson County.
Returning letter winners Ricardo Garcia, Makaela Willis, Macy Carbajo, Meghan Moody, Brooke Smith, and Michaela Gustafson will lead the squad.
Volleyball
Head coach Alicia Von Stein enters her 11th year with an experienced and talented group.
Von Stein will look to returning letter winners seniors Brooke Curry (libero), Ashley Schoenhofer (middle blocker), Jami Hodge (outside hitter), and juniors Melody Hanson (setter), Gwen Getz (outside hitter), and Macy Carbajo (defensive specialist) to provide leadership.
Newcomers Shelby Baker (freshman middle blocker), Rachel Schuckman (sophomore middle blocker), Meagan Crooks (junior defensive specialist), Ashley Evans (junior middle blocker), and Kayla Stewart (senior right side) provide promise.
First test comes Sept. 6 versus Baldwin.
Golf
Head coach Dan Miller is preparing his squad for a Sept. 6 meet at Piper. The Osage City Invitational is set for Sept. 15.
Soccer
Coaches Michael Cox and Will Meier have been busy preparing a very talented squad for a Sept. 1 match at Baldwin. The team travels to Eudora Sept. 6.
