Veterans of Foreign Wars Gardner Post 11234 will celebrate their 20 year anniversary this month.  VFW Post 11234 was chartered Aug. 27, 1991 with 35 members.  The first Commander was Len Ladue and the First Quartermaster was Larry Kessler.  The By-Laws were written by members Ladue, Kessler and Mike Hutton and were approved by FVW National.  The Post has received many awards from District 2, Kansas State VFW & National VFW.  Many of the Commanders and Quartermasters have received National “All-American” cap and pins for 2008-2009.  The Post has also been active in the Gardner community with providing Color Guards, Funeral Details and Firing Squads when needed.  The Post leads the Johnson County Parade each year with the Color Guard.  They offer several patriotic programs to local schools youth.  The VFW Post helped plan and dedicate Gardner Veterans Park.  The Post makes donations to Kansas VA Hospital and they send “Care” packages to active military in Afghanistan.  The Post hands our “Buddy Pose” each year in November to remember those who have served this Country.
At the Aug. 25 Post meeting they will recognize the 20 year anniversary.  Thank you to all the members who have fought on foreign ground to protect the Flag and Freedom.
