George J. “Big George” Jensen, 85, of Gardner, passed away July 14, 2011 at Meadowbrook Rehab Hospital, Gardner, Kan.
George was born Nov. 12, 1925 in Kansas City, Mo. to Arthur Edward and Rachel Frances (Strong) Jensen. He spent his first two years in the Rosedale area. The family moved to Olathe in 1927 where he grew up.
George married Lois Maxine Eastland on Feb. 18, 1948 in Olathe, Kan. He moved his family to Gardner in 1957.
He was a dairy farmer for 30 years and a truck driver for his own trucking company, Jensen Trucking, for three years. George was a driver for Mid-American Truck Line for over 20 years. He owned and operated Jensen Water Hauling from 1959-1974.
George was a member of the Gardner Masonic Lodge and the Abdullah Shrine for over 60 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gardner, Olathe Trail Riders, Olathe Jaycees, Gardner Lions, Docey Dandies, and the Morning Grange. George enjoyed time with his family and friends and loved driving his truck.
George was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Lois; children: George Ralph Jensen and wife Eva, Olathe, Kan., Dr. Roy Andrew Jensen and wife Linda, Gardner, Kan. and Mary Jane Cunningham and husband Brent, Gardner, Kan.; brother Arthur F. Jensen, Olathe, Kan.; six grandchildren: Angela, Amy, Jennifer, Andrew, Derek and Brett; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral service were held 10 a.m., July 19, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church, 138 E Shawnee, Gardner, Kan. Private family graveside followed at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, Kan. Visitation was held July 18, 2011 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, Kan. (913) 856-7111. Masonic service was held at 8 p.m.
