, 87, of Gardner, formerly of Kansas City, Mo. passed away July 14, 2011 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Mo.
Gail was born May 5, 1924 on the family farm in Wabaunsee County, Kan. to Charles and Minnie (Brown) Thompson. He grew up in the Harveyville, Kan. area and graduated from Harveyville High School.
Gail married Mildred Ellsworth on Jan. 6, 1946 in Fontana, Kan. They moved to Bakersfield, Calif., then to Kansas City, Mo. in 1949 and to the Johnson County area in 1962. Gail retired after 38 years with the US Post Office as a mail carrier in Kansas City, Mo.
He attended the First Presbyterian Church, Gardner, Kan.
Gail was a gardener with a “Green Thumb” who also enjoyed woodworking and refurbishing and landscaping homes. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Gail was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Keith and Rodney.
He is survived by his wife Mildred, of the home; son Randy and wife Joleen Thompson, Ottawa, Kan. and daughter Karen and husband Kim Liu, Gardner, Kan.; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., July 20, 2011 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, Kan. (913) 856-7111. Burial follows at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation was held July 19, 2011 at the funeral home.
