Riding a four-game win streak, the Johnson County Cowboys 12-under baseball team recently wrapped up third place in the Olathe competitive league.
Highlighting the late-season surge was a 9-7 win versus the Olathe Mavericks. Joe Briggs stroked the game-winning grand slam and pitcher Jared Highfill sealed the verdict with two shutout innings of relief.
Highfill and Spencer Updike shared the bulk of the pitching duties. Solid relief help came from Grant Mackey and Austyn Hatton.
Mackey anchored the catching position and solid infield came from Hatton and Dylan Mars. Briggs, Brady Scott, and Dylan Brenneman roamed the outfield.
Head coach Dave Highfill had help in assistants Charlie Brenneman, Clint Mackey and Mike Kimler. Their roster included Brenneman, Briggs, Marshall Carpenter, James Chapman, Hatton, Highfill, Nate Kimler, Mackey, Mars, Brady Scott, and Updike.
