The Spring Hill 14-under baseball squad recently wrapped up second place in the Gardner competitive post-season tourney held July 5-9 at Celebration Park.
The Broncos reached the final but dropped a hard-fought 10-8 decision to the Olathe Scrappers.
“The team battled the whole tourney and gave a great effort,” said Coach David Londene. “I was real proud of the kids.”
First round action saw Spring Hill blank the Blazers 15-0 behind the pitching of Garrett Kroutch.
In second round action, Spring Hill defeated number one seed Wellsville Longhorns 16-7 behind winning pitcher Reid Burger. Robbie Haupt led the hit parade with three-for-three and two RBI.
In round three Spring Hill dropped an 11-10 heartbreaker to the Scrappers. Despite the loss Haupt and Michael Londene collected two hits apiece.
Spring Hill reached the final by virtue of a 13-5 win versus Wellsville. Caleb Volkman was the winning pitcher.
Playing for the Broncos were Burger, Taylor Burton, Connor Eckert, Charles Elam, Haupt, Danny Hodge, Londene, Kroutch, Zach Mayhan, Austin Sparks, Brad Smith, Braeden Towles, and Volkman.
