Posting a perfect 6-0 record, Coach Mark Mills’ 13-under Blazer baseball team captured the 13 AAA state title June 25 at Heritage Park, Overland Park, Kan.
A number two seed, the Blazers breezed through pool play with a 3-0 record.
First round bracket play saw the Blazers defeat the reigning 2010 champion Kansas Mudcats 7-1 and advanced to the title game with a 5-1 semi-final win versus the Butler County Mudcats. The Blazers won the title with a convincing 14-5 win versus the first seed Red Sox.
“This is an amazing group of boys and the coaching staff is so proud of their effort,” said Mills. “They played as a team and everyone contributed. A big thanks to the parents for all their time and encouragement.”
Playing for the state champions were Alex Anguiano, Jon Bangert, Nolan Beets, Grason Cavner, Ivan Hughes, Mason McDow, Jack Mills, Spencer Scalzi, Nick Sloan, Jacob ‘Bama’ Swords, Joe Todd, and Jackson Wells.
Assisting Mills were Ralph Anguiano, Darren Beets, and Kevin Scalzi.
