William Vance Stiles, 82, of Spring Hill, KS, passed away peacefully June 18, 2011 at Golden Living Center, Spring Hill.  Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S Webster, Spring Hill, KS, 913-592-2244.  Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Spring Hill.  Visitation will be from 5 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, June 21, 2011 also at the funeral home.  Memorial Contributions may be made to the Spring Hill United Methodist Church or the Spring Hill Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.  Condolences may be given at www.brucefuneralhome.com
Vance was born February 6, 1929 on the family farm near Spring Hill to Vernon Curtis and Martha Leora (Nevius) Stiles.  He graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1946 and attended classes for a semester at Kansas State University.  On March 21, 1953 he married Lois Maurine Williams of Olathe, and the couple made their home on the farm.  He was a life-long farmer, raising cattle, hay and crops.  He was a member of the Spring Hill United Methodist Church.  He served on the Spring Hill Recreation Board, which developed the plans for the first swimming pool.  He was a charter member of the Spring Hill Rustlers 4-H Club and the Spring Hill Ruritans.  He was a volunteer for Spring Hill Rural Fire Department, served on the Spring Hill USD 230 School Board and the Board of Directors for Farmer’s Union Co-op, and he was on the founding Board of Trustees for Cozy Haven.  He enjoyed travel and family gatherings and kept up on current events as an avid reader of several newspapers.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois Stiles; sons, Dale and Debby Stiles, Keith and Lesia Stiles, all of Spring Hill; daughter Carol Stiles of Valdosta, GA; a sister Loretta S. Zimmerman of Overland Park, KS; six grandchildren:  Jen and Jeff Rezac, Topeka, Brad and Andrea Stiles, Lincoln, NE, Kendra Stiles, Olathe, Mason Stiles, Olathe, Desiree Stiles, Spring Hill and Weston Stiles, Ft. Hood, TX; and three great grandchildren:  Shannon, Kristen, and Collin.
