Gardner Edgerton High School softball squad posted its first win of the season with a 4-3 decision at Paola, April 14.
GEHS went up 1-0 in the first inning courtesy of an RBI single by Shelby Plank. The ‘Blazers added another run in the second when Mackenzie Skeens stroked an RBI single.
Up 2-0, GEHS added two more tallies in the fifth inning from RBI singles by Jacquelyn Silva and Alexis Pacheco.
Paola rallied with two tallies in the sixth and another in the seventh, but fell one run short.
Kirsten Leffert was the winning pitcher as the ‘Blazers handed first year head coach Joanne Calvin her first victory.
Inclement weather forced an early end to game two. GEHS trailed 3-2 in the second inning when the game was called. When the game was suspended, GEHS had Ashleigh Perry at third base and Peyton Weekly at second base with Skeens at bat.
GEHS got right back at it April 19 at Ottawa. A home doubleheader with Blue Valley Southwest is set for April 21.
