Jack T. Moore, 81, of Gardner, passed away March 6, 2011 at Sharon Lane Nursing Home, Shawnee, KS. He previously resided at Vintage Park in Gardner.
Jack was born October. 18, 1929 in Princeton, WV to John Thomas and Cleva Higgenbotham Moore. He was a decorated high school athlete and a member of the 1947 Princeton High School Basketball State Championship Team. Jack married Joyce Morris in 1949. A daughter Rebecca was born in 1950. In 1951 Jack joined the US Air Force. He served his country honorably until his discharge in 1955. Jack married Joan R. Riggle on December 13, 1955 in Paola, KS. Three sons were born to the union, Thomas J., Michael R., and William J. Following his discharge from the military, Jack began his career in the trucking industry, working as a manager for several national trucking firms. Jack retired in 1990. Jack’s second career involved golf, his passion. Jack obtained his Professional Teaching Certification and began working at the Mission Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, KS. Following his move to Gardner in 2000, Jack began teaching at the Gardner Golf Club. Numerous persons were introduced to the game through Jack’s lessons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, former wife Joyce and his wife Joan in 2000. Jack is survived by his daughter Rebecca and husband Bob Skillin of Dunkirk, MD; sons Thomas, Michael and wife Linda of Shawnee, KS, and William J. Moore; grandchildren, Laura, Billy, Jake, Shawn and Tyler; great grandchildren Elizabeth, Taylor, Renee, Mathew and Will; as well as numerous friends at the Gardner Golf Course and the American Legion Post 19
Visitation will be from 6 – 8:00 pm, March 10, 2011 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Private committal will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to GEHS Girl’s Golf Team. Condolences may be sent to www.brucefuneralhome.com.
