The Gardner Edgerton High School wrestlers took their show on the road Jan. 18 and brought back two individual Newton Tournament wrestling titles.
T.J. Stokes won the 125 pound division turning back Cody Beasley of Campus, the number one-ranked all-classes wrestler, in the finals, 8-1. He also placed ahead of number one-ranked 5A wrestler Colby Watters of Ark City.
Equally impressive was Williams, who beat several ranked wrestlers on his way to his first place title. Just a freshman, Williams entered the tourney as the number six seed at 140 pounds, but earned the title.
Senior Kyle Pacheco battled his way through a tough tourney bracket and secured fifth place. The 215-pound division was one of the toughest classes of the tourney and Pacheco excelled. Pacheco, ranked five in the 5A 215-pound class, defeated the number three-ranked wrestler for fifth place.
Placing eighth were Austin Keehn and Alex Stockton.
