Leslie Alan Davidson, 63, of rural Paola, Kan., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at his home after an extended illness.
Alan was born Dec. 1, 1947, in Grant City, Mo. He was the first of four children born to Orlie Dean and Iona June (Thompson) Davidson. He graduated from Hiawatha High School with the class of 1965. After graduating from high school, he obtained his associate of arts degree from Highland Community College in 1967. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business from Ottawa University in 1980.
He was united in marriage to Jeanne Moyer on Dec. 14, 1968, in Atchison, Kan. They became the parents of one son, Jeffrey Alan Davidson, in 1971. They divorced in 1989.
Alan served in the U. S. Army from February 1969 to December 1976, working in the personnel division. He served one tour in Vietnam and three years in Germany during this time. His final tour of duty was as Personnel Management Supervisor at Irwin Army Hospital at Fort Riley.
He was associated with his father in the operation of the Osawatomie Building Supply as Assistant Office Manager from 1976 to 1984. He was a Program Technician and Income Maintenance Worker in the Ottawa office of the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services from 1982 to 1984. He also served as the Administrative Assistant to the Osawatomie City Manager. In 1984, he became the Assistant Personnel Administrator at the Osawatomie State Hospital. In May 1988, he was appointed Personnel Director at the hospital and retired Jan. 6, 2006.
Alan was married to Linda (Quincy) Myers on Nov. 13, 1990, at the First Baptist Church in Paola. They resided in Osawatomie until moving to Timber Lake Estates, Lane, Kan., in 1993. They later moved to Paola in October of 2003.
Alan enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s school and sports activities and the KU basketball games. He enjoyed reading and was a history buff. He was a very genuine, warm-hearted and selfless person, placing all others before himself. He was a member of Osawatomie Elk’s Lodge No. 921 and VFW Post No. 2258.
He is survived by his wife Linda of the home; his son Jeffrey Alan Davidson and his wife Stephanie of Ottawa, Kan.; two step-sons and their wives Chad and Jill Myers and Brad and Staci Myers of Paola; his stepdaughter and her husband Kim and Kenneth McKinney of Paola; his parents Orlie and Iona Davidson of Osawatomie; his brother Stephen Davidson of Independence, Mo.; two sisters Linda Burk of Louisburg, Kan. and Norma Kay Reynierse of Chesapeake, Va.; two granddaughters Lauren and Brenna Davidson; four step-grandchildren Ashley and Bailey Myers and Tyler and Garrett McKinney; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Osawatomie with military honors. Burial will be in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his uncles Billy Dean Thompson, Paul Lehman, Clark Stabe, Ted Cerny, Rex Thompson and friends Dan Mufich and Gilbert Johnson. Memorials are to the Friends of the Mentally Ill Foundation or Hospice House of Olathe.
