Norris D Olson, 87, of Salina passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Presbyterian Manor in Salina.  He was born on the family farm in Collyer and was baptized and confirmed at the Banner Community Church. He was born the fifth child of Otto and Nina (Seirer) Olson on May 21, 1923, in Collyer, Kansas.

Norris graduated from Collyer High School and then Kansas State University where he lettered in basketball.  Afterward he entered the U.S. Navy, where he served in the South Pacific during World War II.  He later earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas.  His career included teaching, coaching, homebuilding and serving as mayor of Spring Hill, Kansas. After moving to Salina in 1963, he was appointed Salina city manager and served in that position 14 1/2 years.  In 1979 he became general manager of MK Development Company, which redeveloped the former Schilling Manor subdivision.
Norrris was a member of the Salina Downtown Lions Club, International City Managers Association, Kansas Association of City Management (past president), League of Kansas Municipalties, Salina Chamber of Commerce, Alpha Mu Honorary Fraternity, Wildcat Legends and Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Norris is survived by Virginia, his wife of 64 years; two sons, Randy (Jo Anne) of Erie, Colo, and John, of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Brenna Olson of Austin, TX and David Olson of Boulder, Colo., seven nephews including Galen Olson of Wakeeney and six nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers and one sister.
Visitation was held Sunday, December 26 at Ryan Mortuary in Salina. A memorial service was held Monday December 27 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Salina after a privated family graveside service.
