Fifteen Gardner-Edgerton Wrestling Club kids brought back medals from the season-opening tourney in Paola, Dec. 18.
“We had 17 wrestlers compete, many of whom it was their first tourney of the year,” Coach J.J. Peine said. “For the first tourney, we competed well and saw a lot of promising things to build on.”
Earning gold medals were Evan Wooten, Zach Ghale, Gavin Brown, Lincoln Stripling, Matthew Klaurens, Tanner Peine, and Emilio Fowler.
Second-place awards went to James Edwards, Zach Norton, and Lane McKinney, while bronze medals went to Alonzo Borjas, T.J. Burger and Dylan McDonald.
George Barrager finished fourth and Hayden Stinemetz, fifth place.
On Dec. 19, GEWC kids brought back five medals.
Dylan Andrews took gold while Bryce Eckelberry took second place. Third places went to Kaleigh Norton and Dakota Taylor. Logan Lawrence took fourth place.
Next action comes Jan. 8 at the Johnson County Classic at Olathe East. The Novice wrestlers travel to Bonner Springs, Jan. 9.
