William Fredrick Voigts, Sr, 93, of Gardner, died Dec. 20 at Olathe Medical Center.
William was born July 20, 1917, in Prairie Village, Kan. to Herman F. and Clara M. (Bookhouse) Voigts. He was a graduate of Olathe High School. William married Lorena Martha Scott August 30, 1936 in Lenexa, Kan. They would have celebrated their 75th anniversary next year. They moved to Gardner in 1958, lived in Holton and Hiawatha and moved back to Gardner.
He was a District Sales Representative for Garst and Thomas Pioneer Hybrid Seed Co of Coon Rapids, Iowa as well as a farmer. His whole life was built around corn and the farming production of that crop. He attended the First Baptist Church of Gardner. William was a member of the Gardner Lions Club and a former USD 231 School Board Member. In his retirement years William helped his son Bill at the greenhouse. He and Lorena enjoyed selling produce at the Overland Park outdoor City market. He enjoyed fishing in Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Henry and his sister Ella. William is survived by his wife Lorena, of Gardner; his sons William F. Voigts, Jr. of Wellsville, Kan., and Scott E. Voigts and wife Shawn of Robinson, Kan.; brother Norman Voigts of Edgerton, Kan.; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Graveside Services were held on Dec. 23, 2010 at Gardner Cemetery, Gardner, Kan.
