Rita was born Sept. 28, 1946 in Paola, KS to Retus Andrew and Frances Marie Ferrell Shay. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in Paola. Rita was a life-long area resident.  She was Edgerton City Clerk for 35 years, retiring in Aug. 2009.  Rita was a Catholic.  She loved to garden, do crafts, read and spend time with her grandchildren. Her passion as Edgerton City Clerk was helping coordinate volunteer efforts such as purchasing and renovating the former Edgerton State Bank building for the Edgerton Library, known as the Bank of Knowledge , helping launch Christmas Families to help the less fortunate in Edgerton during the holidays, and she was instrumental in establishing the Edgerton Historical Society.  Rita was involved in anything Edgerton.  Some even called her the “mother” of their town.  She was a special and caring woman who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Mike and Gary Shay.  She is survived by first husband, Neil Campbell, father of her children: Kent Campbell and wife Kim, Edgerton, KS, Dana and husband Russ Caruthers, Wellsville, KS; her second husband Alex Moore; step-children:  Kelli Baker, Greg Moore, Marla Higdon and Lori Sterling; siblings: Patti Butell, Dennis Shay, and Cindy Shay; 15 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren with another on the way.  It is impossible to count the number of nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends that she loved and cherished and considered “family”.
