Ali Daniels’ 12th-place finish helped the Lady ‘Blazers take fifth place at the state 5A cross country meet at the Rim Rock course in Lawrence, Oct. 30.
Daniels clocked a 4k time of 16:29 and brought back a 12th-place medal. Right behind came sophomore Dana Goodwin who clocked 16:32 – good enough for a 16th-place medal.
“I was real pleased with our effort,” said Coach Larry Ward. “We went out, competed well, and brought back a very respectable fifth-place team finish.”
Mackenzie Scroggin provided key points by finishing 33rd in an excellent time of 17:06. Katie Groshong took 47th in 17:28 and Anna Gardiner, 81st in 18:41.
Rounding out the squad were Kristen Moore, 97th in 19:46, and Nicole Stroda, 101st in 19:56.
On the boys’ side, where races were 5k, Arron Scott finished 54th in 18:00. Scott made marked improvement throughout the season and finished with an excellent state outing.
An ankle injury prevented Dewey Molenda from completing the race. He withdrew in the final stages of the race.
“At this point it doesn’t appear to be a serious injury,” added Ward. “Hopefully, he can take time to heal and get back with winter workouts.”
