The fifth-grade ‘Blazers tackle-football squad dropped a hard-fought 28-15 decision to Olathe North, Oct. 10.
North jumped to a 6-0 first-quarter lead and went up 28-0 at halftime.
Back came the ‘Blazers with 13, third-quarter points to make a game of it. The ‘Blazers accumulated 224 total yards of offense on 52 plays – mostly in the second half.
A safety concluded the scoring and left the outcome 28-15, North.
Despite the loss, Luke Laskowski led the rushing with 144 yards on 28 totes. A. Bond added 38 yards on 14 carries.
On Oct. 2, the Jr. ‘Blazers lost a tough 7-6 contest to Blue Valley Northwest – one of the top teams in the Blue Valley Football Club.
The Huskies went up 6-0 in the first quarter and held the lead til a fourth-quarter rally by the ‘Blazers.
The ‘Blazers tied the score at 6-6, scoring with just one minute left in the game. That forced overtime.
In overtime, both teams failed to score from the 20-yard line. However, Blue Valley Northwest had a net gain of nine yards to the ‘Blazers seven, and were awarded a one-point win.
Once again, Laskowski led the rushing with 83 yards on 25 totes and one touchdown.
Bond added 27 yards on seven totes.
