Gregg Plank, a 1981 Gardner Edgerton High School graduate, will be inducted into the GEHS Athletic Hall of Fame this weekend. He is the sole 2010 inductee into the prestigious hall.
While a student at GEHS, Plank competed in three sports. He earned All-League and All-State honors in football; All-League and Kansas City Metro honros in bastketball; and also lettered in track and field.
According to a press release, Plank was known as a fierce competitor in both football and basketball racking up a number of school records in both. As a linebacker and offensive linebacker for the Trailblazers, Plank helped GEHS capture two league titles.
Plank continued his football career as a starting offensive guard for Kansas State University and competed in the Wildcats first bowl game.
Plank will be honored Friday night during halftime of the GEHS Homecoming game against Blue Valley Southwest. The school will host an induction ceremony at 3 p.m. on Sept. 26 in the GEHS Commons. A plaque commemorating Plank’s achievements will be permanently displayed in the GEHS gym foyer.
The induction ceremony is open to the public. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
