Behind five strong innings from Shelby Plank, the Lady ‘Blazers softball squad gained a split in softball doubleheader action at DeSoto, May 4.
Kirsten Leffert relieved Plank and earned a save as Gardner Edgerton High School salvaged game two of the Frontier League doubleheader.
“In our first game we could no overcome an early deficit and lost 4-1,” Coach Karlin Morris said. “We lost despite an incredible pitching effort from Leffert.”
Game two was a different story as GEHS bats came to life with eight hits and six runs.
Leading batters were Alexis Pacheco, Morgan Buie and Mackenzie Skeens.
Pacheco had a three-for-four outing and Buie came through with two doubles and three RBI. Skeens went two-for-four with two doubles.
Defensively, right-fielder Megan Lindquist grabbed two run-saving catches. Pacheco was superb behind the plate calling an excellent game.
After a doubleheader at St. James Academy May 10, the team heads to 5A Regional play, May 17.
