Sophomore record-setting running back Trevohn Wrench led an impressive list of Blazers recently recognized on the East Kansas All-League football squad.
Wrench, a first team selection, carried the load for the Blazers with 269 totes for 2,424 yards and 33 touchdowns. He rushed for a school record 453 yards and seven touchdowns in a first round 5A district win versus Bonner Springs.
Also named to the first team were senior defensive lineman Marcus Williams, junior linebacker Matt Plank, senior linebacker Brent Bovitz, and senior defensive back Austin Goldsmith.
Defensive lineman Williams recorded 78 tackles and had two fumble recoveries. Plank led the team with 110 tackles (66 solo, 44 assists), 10 tackles for losses, and two sacks. Equally impressive was Bovitz who recorded 102 tackles (55 solo, 47 assist), had six tackles for losses, and three sacks.
Defensive back Goldsmith controlled the secondary with 85 tackles (38 solo, 47 assist) and had three tackles for losses.
A second team award went to senior offensive lineman Cayden White.
Honorable mentions went to Greg Hopper, senior offensive lineman; Ryan Goetzmann, senior wide receiver; Jimmy Orwick, senior defensive lineman; Jerrad McDermott, senior linebacker; and Justin Long, senior defensive back.
Their efforts led Gardner Edgerton High School to an 8-4 record and another appearance in the 5A state semi-final game.
