Janet Wittkopf will be inducted to the Gardner Edgerton High School Athletic Hall of Fame, but not for athletic accomplishments.
Instead, the former GEHS band director of more than 30 years earns the recognition as a Special Award for her devoted support of the athletic program at the high school.
“Her leadership and dedication to the band and the athletic programs at GEHS are numerous.  The number of pep assemblies, pep band performances, and marching performances at the high school are certainly hard to count over her distinguished career,” Athletic Director Kent Glaser said.
Wittkopf will be recognized during halftime of the Oct. 26 home football game. The formal Hall of Fame induction will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28 in the GEHS auditorium. Members of the public are invited to attend both celebrations.
