Get in the game with Winter Break Basketball Camps being offered over winter break by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through three, and grades four through eight.
These Winter Basketball camps are being offered at the Okun Fieldhouse, located within the Mid-America West Sports Complex at 20200 Johnson Drive, Shawnee. Camps offerings for both the younger and older age groups include both two- and four-day options.
During the camp for grades kindergarten through three, players will participate in drills, group activities, and small scrimmages offering group and one-on-one instruction.  Players will practice shooting, passing, ball handling, offense and defense.
A four-day session for the K-3 age group is offered beginning at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27 through Friday, Dec. 30. The cost for four 90-minute sessions is $65 per person for Johnson County residents or $70 per person for nonresidents. Two-day sessions are offered on Tuesday, Dec. 27, and Wednesday, Dec. 28; and Thursday, Dec. 29, and Friday, Dec. 30. Both of these also begin at 3 p.m., and the cost for two 90-minute sessions is $35 per person for Johnson County residents or $40 per person for nonresidents.
The camps for  grades four through eight allow participants to hone their basketball skills,  Participants will be divided by grade and ability; this program is a great opportunity for beginners through advanced players.  The camp will assist players in fine tuning skills, work on positional practice and introduce advanced offense and defense.  Players will practice shooting, passing, and ball handling while further developing an understanding of the flow of the game.
A four-day session for this older age group is offered beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27 through Friday, Dec. 30. The cost for four 90-minute sessions is $65 per person for Johnson County residents or $70 per person for nonresidents. Two-day sessions are offered on Tuesday, Dec. 27, and Wednesday, Dec. 28; and Thursday, Dec. 29, and Friday, Dec. 30.
