Makaela Willis and Derek Bybee paced the Spring Hill cross country effort at a 4A regional in Wyandotte County Park, Oct. 23.
Willis just missed qualifying for state with a personal best 4k time of 16:47 – good enough for 18th place. Bybee claimed 26th in a 5k time of 18:29.
“Overall, I was real pleased with our performances,” said Coach Rick O’Neil. “The kids kept improving and worked hard every day in practice. It’s been a good year.”
Besides Bybee, Ricardo Garcia claimed 27th in 18:31 followed by Michael Nemer (40th, 19:01), and Trent Schartz (80th, 22:38).
Right behind Willis came Michaela Gustafson in a 4k time of 20:35 – good enough for 75th. Amanda Williams finished 77th in 20:47; Cheyenne Townley, 80th in 22:21; and Vera Swinski, 81st in 22:38.
Baldwin won both divisions and De Soto claimed runner-up.
